Due to one of his many love affairs François, Baron de Trenck is court-martialed and sentenced to death but can escape by the help of his lover princesse Natalie Alexandrovna. At the same time he helps princess Deinartstein who had run away from arranged marriage with Russian prince Solojew whom she does not love. As this could lead to political complications with Russia which was expected to support Austria in the battle against France and de Trenck again prevents the now forced marriage by de l'impératrice Marie-Thérèse, he has to declare his behavior to her. As a result he consent to fight with his private Pandur corps contre la France. During his stay in Vienna he discovers that, la comtesse de sainte-Croix and prince Solojew are spying for France contre l'Autriche. Trenck being trapped by comtesse de sainte-Croix consent to join the french troops, but his intention his counterespionage. Guess, will he be successful?
